EIC’S ECO “DRIVE”

Building services provider to reduce fleet CO2 as part of ISO 14001.
EIC has pledged to replace its existing vehicle fleet with greener models in order to reduce its CO2 emissions. The move will see the 350-strong van and car fleet replaced over the next four years as part of the firm’s eco-commitment, as embodied in the company’s new ISO14001 accreditation.
This includes 40 per cent of cars being replaced with Ecoflex vehicles, which offer a 20 per cent CO2 reduction, and the 300-strong van fleet which will be traded for lower emission versions as part of a rolling programme.
The national building services specialist has also revealed plans to re-evaluate its procurement procedures to incorporate increased sustainability capabilities, and to reduce energy consumption throughout the business with a comprehensive review of existing usage, resulting in the implementation of a raft of energy saving initiatives.
The announcement comes as the firm, which is headquartered in the Midlands but has eleven regional offices from Scotland to Cornwall, successfully achieves the international environmental management standard ISO 14001. The accreditation reflects the efforts EIC has made to address the balance between providing customer satisfaction, maintaining profitability and reducing its environmental impact.
Ian Lyall, joint managing director of EIC, said: “The pursuit of this accreditation has formed part of what is a long-term goal for EIC to reduce our impact on the environment and to encourage our customers to do likewise. Our clients have to respond to increasing demands for sustainability so by having this accreditation we can also provide them with peace of mind that our processes and procedures are up to the most rigorous of international standards.
“EIC undertakes a range of initiatives including the provision of materials from a sustainable source, be that renewable or recycled, that have the capacity to be fully recycled at the end of their life. We use local suppliers and offer cost effective solutions for new installations that are intended to reduce energy usage.
“The measures we are taking demonstrate our commitment to environmental concerns. The team is dedicated to driving through all green initiatives so that we can see a year-on-year reduction to our overall carbon footprint and we will aim to demonstrate our continued commitment and remain at the front of environmental innovation going forward.”
