Commercial maintenance contract for EIC

National building services provider EIC has won a comprehensive planned maintenance contract with national commercial property consultancy, Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH). The three-year agreement also includes reactive repair cover for commercial office space at 1 Eversholt Street, London, in a deal which could be worth in excess of £500,000.

Originally built in 1977, the building comprises 119,041 sq ft air conditioned office space and is close to Euston train station. LSH’s London Property Management team has overall responsibility for the 13-storey office block and has appointed EIC to take responsibility for the maintenance, operation and repair of the water, heating and ventilation systems.

The contract will be delivered from EIC’s regional office in London’s Docklands, set up in 2009 to expand and strengthen the firm’s capacity to provide engineered facilities management services in the capital. Two engineers from the previous maintenance provider have transferred under TUPE to EIC as a part of the handover. This allows the firm to maximise the experience of the existing team while also adding value in terms of EIC’s own engineers’ expertise and project management skills, 24-hour helpdesk and rapid response call-out capacity.

Sean Gleeson, EIC’s London regional director, said: “We’re delighted to have secured this three-year contract with LSH for the comprehensive planned maintenance of 1 Eversholt Street.

“We believe it is important to understand our clients’ needs and align our solutions to fit. With almost 40 years’ experience in the sector, we have the knowledge and expertise to anticipate their requirements, undertaking works which offer best whole life value and minimise disruption to the building’s occupants. We’re also pleased to welcome our new members of the team who bring their experience and skills both to this particular contract and, ultimately, the wider company."

The scope of works includes the provision of; low temperature hot water installations; chilled water systems including wet cooling towers; fire suppression and alarm systems; variable air volume air conditioning across 10 floors; mechanical ventilation; incoming supplies; and an automatic control building management system throughout.
Sheryl Thorne, the London head of facilities management for LSH, said: “We appointed EIC to undertake our comprehensive planned maintenance contract not only because we felt they had the relevant experience and reputation in the sector, but also because of the cost-competitive nature of their tender. In addition, we had a particular interest in maintaining continuation for the staff on site and felt it was important the team coming in was able to provide them with appropriate training and development.”

EIC offers both engineered facilities management and engineered building services which enables clients to access a package which is tailored to match their requirements. With a 24-hour “helpdesk” facility and a network of 12 regional offices - from Scotland to Cornwall - EIC can meet the needs of both local and national firms, wherever they are located.

Getting Streetwise with Charity Project

A charity is hoping to raise an extra £35,000 a year following the revamp of its conference facilities. Bosses at LV=Streetwise in Bournemouth hope to attract paying customers to its headquarters in Elliott Road after volunteers from construction company Morgan Sindall Plc and building services provider EIC Ltd gave their old meeting room a new lease of life.

Alison Shelton is centre manager for the children’s accident prevention charity. She hopes the suite will provide the ideal alternative for small corporate meetings and training sessions, and will contribute up to a sixth of the charity’s annual budget. Alison said: “I knew our utilitarian little meeting room had more potential and so was looking for funding to update the facilities when Morgan Sindall and EIC generously offered to do the work for us. What they have done is fantastic, we have been incredibly lucky to receive these donations of time, expertise and materials at no cost to the charity.

“By hiring a room from us, local businesses and other organisations will be giving something back to their community, as all funds raised go directly back into our campaign to educate children and ultimately save lives. Even though the team has only just finished the work, we are already booked up until the summer. In fact, I’m delighted to say, we’re struggling to arrange our own board meetings as there has been so much interest !”

Boasting a brand new kitchen, a break out area and a 50-inch flat screen TV, the refurbishment project was led by Morgan Sindall Plc’s Pool-based team, with the electrical, plumbing and air conditioning installation being completed by the team from EIC’s Lymington office.

Paul Gale, Morgan Sindall Plc area director, said: “We have been involved with Streetwise since its foundation in 1997 and have been delighted to see it go from strength to strength. When Alison told me of her plans to refurbish the meeting room, in order to raise much needed funds, we were happy to step in and offer our services.”

In recognition of the work EIC has undertaken on this project, which amounted to around £5,000 in man-hours and expertise, LV=Streetwise has installed a plaque of thanks on the sponsor’s wall at the centre. Darren Parrish, EIC South regional director, added: “I’m really pleased that we were able to get involved and add value to this project. LV=Streetwise is a fantastic charity and does some amazing work teaching children about staying safe. We take our corporate social responsibility very seriously at EIC and it is incredibly satisfying to know that our efforts over the last month will enable Alison to raise so much money to continue the charity’s important work.”
