EIC Completes Commercial Office Fit Out

EIC, the national building services provider, has completed a commercial office fitout for Thames Water. EIC delivered the full mechanical and electrical installation contract at the 43,000 sq ft Operational Management Centre – known as Kemble Court - within just five months.
Working alongside main contractor Itineri and mechanical and electrical consultant The Engineering Practice, EIC was responsible for mechanical and electrical installation. The project included reconfiguring and adapting existing M&E services, and adding new solutions to meet the clients’ specific requirements. The full M&E fitout included hot and cold water systems, electrical distribution, standby power, lighting, heating, cooling , ventilation, communications room air conditioning, CCTV, access control, building management system fire alarm and gas suppression.
Although the building was empty when the work began, staff began relocating to Kemble Court during the refurbishment process. In order to minimise disruption and respond quickly to any concerns, EIC put in place a dedicated customer helpdesk to provide information about the project and details of the work ongoing. The team worked flexibly around the requirements of these early occupiers while also ensuring making sure the delivery schedule was met within the target timeframe.
Alasdair Ward, lead design engineer from Thames Water, said: “EIC provide excellent support in all areas of the project, including those outside their original remit. Their efforts played a significant part in enabling the team to achieve the very challenging delivery programme. I was particularly impressed with the way EIC responded to the challenges which arose during the project. They showed patience, understanding and professionalism and their work was a major factor in our timely delivery of the project.”
Kemble Court, at Green Park in Reading, is the new home for the Thames Water Operational Management Centre, bringing together for the first time many of the organisation’s different management teams in order to improve customer service.
Ian Lyall, joint managing director of EIC, said: “This was an exceptional project which demanded experience from across the company working together to ensure the efficient delivery of a large-scale scheme within a fairly tight timeframe. We took a flexible approach to the delivery of the contract and made sure the team was able to respond quickly when the client’s requirements changed and when the building became occupied. I’m glad we were able to add value through our experience and expertise and I’m delighted with the response we have received from the main contractor and the client, which is testament to the hard work of the whole team.”
