EIC’s ‘Bring Bag to Work’ appeal gives flying start to Acorns’ shop

Staff at EIC were so moved when they visited life limited children at Acorns Children's Hospice that they gave the charity’s new shop a flying start with a bumper stock collection.

The ‘Bring a Bag to Work’ appeal at EIC’s Alcester office brought a generous response of toys, bikes, books and goods, filling more than 40 donation bags.
The successful stock appeal will give a good start to Acorns’ latest shop, which is being launched in Alcester High Street on March 19.

John Harris, EIC contract director, said: “We were so touched by our visit to Acorns in Birmingham that I wrote to staff, telling them how wonderful the care was, and they gave this massive response.”

Facilities management and building services company EIC has been supporting Acorns all year and recently broke their fundraising target, handing over a £3,000 donation to Acorns’ Community Fundraiser Joanne Danaher. Fundraising events included dress-down days, a Grand National draw and family day hog roast. Joanne said: “Well done to EIC for this fantastic support, which will be a great boost to the shop stock.

“Acorns carers for nearly 600 children who have life limiting or life threatening conditions and 800 families, including those bereaved. It costs £450 per day for each child’s care, and Acorns relies on wonderful donations such as these for most of its income.”

Janice McPherson, Acorns’ head of retail, added: “This is a wonderful start, and we are keen to see more donations to follow, as we need 600 bags to fill and launch Acorns’ new shop at Alcester.

“The shop has a dedicated ladies’ section, as well as a packed children’s section. Acorns can also take soiled, damaged or well worn clothing, shoes, bags and belts to recycle for extra income. More stock is needed – please deliver to the shop during opening hours from 9 – 5pm, or we can arrange for them to be collected.”
